Yeezus: I Like It

All blasphemy aside, say what you want about Kanye West, but you got to admit he know's how to make an entrance. Yesterday, I purchased his new album Yeezus. I admit, I hadn't heard much about the album, and I wasn't in the best place mentally when I bought it, but now that I have chance to sit and listen to it, I really like. I should admit that I'm a long time Kanye fan, but even as a fan, I sometimes scratch my head at some of the music he's produced and the stunts he's pulled (but seriously, who disagrees that Beyonce had one of the greatest videos of all time? Really?) Anyway, it's a great album. His songs Blackskinhead and New Slaves seem to stick out as the best that Yeezus has to offer or at the very least, the songs that have the most mass appeal, but upon deeper listening, the album works better as a whole piece rather than a collection of separate songs, which is not new to Kanye West's approach to creating albums, but somehow, it seems that he's hit a high-note with this album. Each song seems to set you up for next one.

I don't know where I'm going with all this, so I'll just wrap it up with a final thought. If you don't like Kanye West's music you should definitely avoid Yeezus, but if you count yourself as even a moderate fan, then you should at the very least check out a few tracks on Vevo or borrow the album from a friend. Decide for yourself. Buy or don't buy it, I'm sure the West clan will do just fine either way.

The New Spider-Man: Black, Hispanic, Gay...I'm the superhero with web shooters!

So, if you're into comics you've probably heard about the upcoming release of the new Ultimates: Spider-Man title. Last night, we were watching Conan and saw this hilarious and poignant segment about the new web-slinger's identity...

Nicole Atkins in D.C.!!

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I met singer/songwriter and all around awesome human being, Nicole Atkins at Som Records in Washington, D.C. She sounded awesome despite having no back-up instrumentals and the speaker system wasn't working and it was raining. Best part, after meeting her, she invited us to see her open for Fountains of Wayne at the Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, VA.

BTW, please excuse my unneeded back-up vocals on the video above.

Best Sunday Eva!

A Wedding Present We All Can Appreciate

Normally, I don't give a poop about the royals in England, but recently Prince William and Kate Middleton were given one of these gigantic nuts as a wedding present. No real comment on this except, Whoa! That looks alot like a woman's...

Progressive "Snapshot" Commercial - We Live in Interesting Times

Yesterday, I saw this commercial for the first time. It features a device called "Snapshot", which when installed in your car will allow Progressive to track things like your driving speed, sudden braking, etc., etc. in real time. In exchange, drivers could receive up to 30% off their car insurance after 1 year safe driving.

It's an interesting way to entice safe drivers to switch to progressive, but I have to say that I'm not sure how comfortable I am with my car insurance company know where I am at all times and what my driving habits are. We've already seen what large companies do with private information, the most recent examples being the phone hacking scandal at News Corp and the hacking of the PS3 network.

I'm sure Progressive has taken the implications of the device into consideration. Only the market will decide if this is the sort of road we're willing to go down.
